Our History

Heinrich C. Ulrich founded the medical technology company in Ulm. The initial focus is on the production and distribution of surgical instruments, for example for visceral, bone and vascular surgery. An orthopedic and surgical workshop is attached to the company.

Our first own development, the Möltgen protractor, is brought onto the market. The medical device is used to determine the joint angles of the extremities.

Max Ulrich, the founder's son, joins the family business. It expanded in the following years and during this time laid the successful foundation for the global distribution of our medical products.

The first high-pressure injector according to Hettler comes onto the market. The innovative medical product already had a pneumatic drive and was suitable for all angiographic examinations.

Heiner Ulrich, the grandson of the company founder, joins the company. He successfully advocates for further internationalization.

In 1967, ulrich medical received permission from Paul Harrington to manufacture and sell the Harrington rod in Europe.

The production facility in Blaustein-Herrlingen near Ulm is opened. Our products are manufactured here using modern manufacturing technology.

In addition to surgical instruments and high-pressure injectors, we have now entered the development and production of spinal implants and instruments - and have been setting milestones ever since.

We are developing the first injector for use in computer tomography.

We are launching the world's first MRI contrast agent injector.

The name change of the company Heinrich C. Ulrich KG to ulrich GmbH & Co. KG takes place with four corporate divisions: medical technology, medical supplies, rehabilitation technology and doctor and consultation supplies.

The company is being restructured. The medical supply store, rehabilitation technology, and doctor's and consultation supplies for practicing physicians are being sold. Since then, we have been concentrating with all our energy and commitment on the sale of our own developed and manufactured medical technology products.

Our trademark is now called ulrich medical. The legal form ulrich GmbH & Co. KG remains unchanged. With this renaming we underline the international orientation of the company.

In order to further expand our business success, we founded the subsidiary ulrich medical USA, Inc. in St. Louis, Missouri, in January 2006.

We are thus setting the course for expansion. At the same time, we expanded our headquarters in Ulm: With the completion of the new buildings for production and office space, everything is now combined in one location. All areas of the company benefit from the short distances and the modern, communicative architecture.

With the entry of the 4th generation into the top management, Christoph Ulrich, as managing partner, now shares the tasks and responsibilities with the managing director Klaus Kiesel, who has sole power of representation. In this way, we ensure that we remain an innovative and consistent partner for customers, suppliers and employees as an independent family business in the future.

We are celebrating our 100th birthday. With the slogan “Fascination of medical technology” we express the connection to medical technology and the innovative strength that form the foundation for the successful history of ulrich medical.

Out CT contrast agent injector, CT motion, has received FDA approval and is therefore also available to the world's most important medical technology market, the USA. In this way, we are consistently expanding our international postion as an innovative medical device manufacturer.

We have expanded the product portfolio in France to include our spine systems. Since then, our subsidiary has been selling them directly to our French customers.

We are celebrating our 110th anniversary. Under the motto "110 years of passion", we look back on the 11 decades of passion for our customers and products: With commitment and dedication, we want to continue to drive forward further developments for better patient care in the future.

In April of 2023, ulrich medical USA moved its headquarters to Plano, Texas after 17 years in St. Louis Missouri.
