Building on a Century of Success
- 1912
The company is founded in Ulm, Germany in 1912 by Heinrich C. Ulrich. The focus is on the manufacture and sale of high quality, precision surgical instruments. An orthopaedic and surgical workshop is attached to the company. In 1914, the first Ulrich instrument, the Möltgen-style goniometer, is introduced to the market.
- 1925
The founder's son, Max Ulrich, joins the family company in 1925. As his father's successor, he expands the company, achieving worldwide sales. The company develops an extensive line of instruments and is recognized a technological leader.
- 1971
In 1971, Heinrich Ulrich joins the company as an owner and managing director.
- 1975
In 1975 a new, state-of-the-art production plant is opened in Blaustein-Herrlingen, near Ulm.
- 1978
In addition to the development and manufacture of surgical instruments, the company begins producing spinal implant systems in 1978. The world famous cardan screw driver is introduced and becomes a prime example of the expertise involved in designing instruments that are a functional complement to implants.
- 1984
In 1984 Dr Zielke, in partnership with Ulrich, devolops the Anterior Ventral Derotation (VDS) for the correction of scoliosis. Dr. Zielke becomes world famous and his technique begins to be used around the world.
- 1985
The first injector for computer tomography is developed and launched in 1985.
- 1997
The company Heinrich C. Ulrich KG becomes Ulrich GmbH & Co. KG in 1997, with four corporate divisions: Medical technology, medical and health care supplies, rehabilitation technology and physicians' and physician assistants' supplies.
- 2000
In 2000, the company begins to focus on spinal instrumentation systems, instruments and contrast media injectors.
- 2004
A major shift in R&D toward minimally invasivie and non-fusion technologies begins to produce products incorporating these principles.
- 2005
In 2005, the company is renamed ulrich medical, underscoring its increasing international presence.
- 2006
In January 2006, ulrich medical USA is established in St. Louis, Missouri. The VBR cage becomes broadly accepted. Another product is launched in the US -- the tangoRS.
ulrich medical continues to expand and enlarges its plant at Ulm with two new annexes. Production begins in the new building in October 2006.

ulrich medical USA launches obelisc in the United States.
